A home inspection in Vermont is based on Standards of Practice (SOP) that were written by a professional home inspector association. The SOP is designed to be a baseline that all inspectors must follow and it helps to identify any function or safety defects that may be present in the property. It is important to know that this service provides a limited visual inspection at a given point in time. Therefore, it is not a technically exhaustive inspection. That level of inspection would take much longer and would be too expensive for most home buyers to consider. The SOP includes these general categories:
